Popular educator used StreamAlive to help launch his third book
The latest news from StreamAlive and the world of online, offline, and hybrid live events.
Hi there!
Ankur Warikoo needs no introduction for the people of India, but if you haven’t heard of him before, he’s the author of three books, a serial entrepreneur, and an online educator to millions of viewers.
Last week, Ankur launched his third book: Make Epic Money.
To culmination of his launch plan (after weeks of social media promotion) was a YouTube livestream to his millions of followers.
We were thrilled that he wanted to make StreamAlive a part of that livestream so he could better understand his audience, and keep them glued to his stream for the full 60 minutes.
Epic launch. Epic stats.
The title of Ankur’s new book is Make Epic Money, and the stats surrounding his YouTube livestream are also pretty epic.
Watched by 115,000 people on YouTube
Over 13,000 comments were posted by over 6,000 people.
765 comments per minute at its peak - 13 comments per second!
Average of 2 comments per second throughout the one-hour stream
One StreamAlive feature that people don’t think is a big deal until they use it is Quick Questions (it gets overshadowed by the more visual interactions like Magic Maps).
But once our users have run a live session and seen all the questions collated in one place, they quickly change their minds and Quick Questions becomes their favorite aspect of StreamAlive.
Why?
For Ankur’s livestream, Quick Questions automatically picked up over 1,500 questions from the chat.
While it is impossible to answer that many questions in a livestream, post-event, Ankur’s team now has lots of ideas to tweak the book description on Amazon and Flipkart and create more social media content to promote the book.
Keeping StreamAlive stable for a big event
This launch was also a big test for StreamAlive’s backend infrastructure. We use various AWS services to keep the app running super-quick—for the geeks among us, we use AWS Lambda functions for processing specific tasks.
Throughout the event, the dev team had one eye on the livestream and one on the server loads to make sure we didn’t run out of computing resources.
Incredibly, despite the thousands of comments being processed, we didn’t cross more than 30% CPU usage and everything ran butter-smooth—a real testament to the efficient coding skills of our dev team!

Some sad news for Korean Twitchers as the company has made the difficult decision to shut down its operations there. The CEO blamed high network fees in the country which are as much as 10x more than other countries. This is surprising given how advanced Korea is with communication technologies.
